This is a beginner friendly plan to get started with probability & applications. The one course we recommend to do is below, its content is free to view. It will give you a taste of what probability applications are, in particular Machine Learning or Finance. All in simple words. It is more like a blog with videos rather than mathematically deep introduction, though there will be maths as well. Of course.
Key words: real-world applications, high-level overview, beginners friendly. Not too mathsy.
Extra: Lunch Videos
Besides doing or reading through the course above, there are videos related to the subject that we recommend you to watch. E.g when you have a break for food, hence the name :) They are not a part of our main curriculum, and most of them are not even related to Quanta. It is just you may find them
Power of probability: where and hows, part I. Unlike the course above, this high level overview of probability applications is more mathsy. Still beginner friendly though.
How We’re Fooled By Statistics. In particular, about lack of scientific support for the benefits of the punishment method in education.
The Trillion Dollar Equation. Guess what is it related to? Finance! Guess what it relies on? Probability theory!
Bayes theorem, the geometry of changing beliefs. Gentle and somewhat mathematical introduction to Bayes' theorem, one of the key formulas in the whole of probability.
Binomial distributions | Probabilities of probabilities, part 1. This one is around the maths around correctly ranking a product. Knowing what is "n choose k" is useful.
What is Random. Somewhat philosophical video about the "randomness". Very beginner-friendly.
Next Steps
If you have gone through the course above and, maybe, a bunch of the videos, the next step is to get down to doing something more mathematical. Especially if you are now additionally motivated 💪🏼
